Essay |
A person who shows a marked desire for information or knowledge is very curious. I showed mechanical talent at an early age, I enjoyed disassembling toy cars and putting different parts on different cars. My father appreciated my mechanical talent so much that he kept all the screwdrivers put away so that I wouldn’t take the house apart. When I was nine, I tried to fix the toaster that was as old as me. I knew I wasn’t successful because, as soon as I plugged in that antique machine, the black, thick smoke enveloped the room like the clouds during a thunderstorm. My curiosity finally paid off when I was in high school. The school organized a contest to create a model of an amphibian vehicle. I won the first prize for that contest. Perseverance is formally defined as steadfast singleness of purpose, as in the pursuit of a goal, despite difficulties or obstacles. Perseverance is one of my dominant traits, which I have shown since I was a little boy. There are several incidents, which are vivid in my mind even though the days have passed by and the seasons had changed. I vividly remember one incident that happened when I was five years old. I was playing with my mother’s lipstick, and I tried to put that on my father’s lip. He kept twisting and turning away from me. I tried to jump on him, but he moved away from that spot at that instant. I remembered the edge of the bed rushing towards my head……… Next moment, before I knew it, blood was oozing out of my forehead. My father rushed towards me, and you will never guess what I did when he was near. I put the lipstick on his lip with my bloody hand. Another incident that I clearly recall is when I participated in the children’s day celebration. We climbed up on a slipper slope to get the ball placed on top of the slope. The other older boys could climb up the slope quite easily, but I could hardly make three steps. I kept falling and bruising my knees, but I kept on trying even though every one had completed the race. Another occurred when I first immigrated to Singapore, and I hardly understood English. My friends called me "Mr.Yes" because I answered their questions only "yes" or "no". However, I continued to learn English during my spare time and I am happy to say that I can communicate very well now. Practicality is another trait of mine. I am a realistic who believes in practical, matter-of –fact way of approaching or assessing situations or of solving problems. All my life I’ve been harassed by questions: Why is something this way and not another? How do you account for this? I climbed up the tree to check out the fact that the birds are hatched from the egg as it is written the children’s encyclopedia. Unfortunately, it did not mention that I could break my leg if I fell down from the tree. Once, I secretly took ammonium nitrate powder from the chemistry lab to make firecrackers. It was powerful enough to burn my hand and I am happy report that my hand is still intact. I found myself asking to my Mathematics tutor, " How can we apply this concept to everyday life?" after every chapter. After a few times, he wearily replied, "Mr.Aung, it kept the teachers like us from losing the job." Everyone’s personality is different. It is the totality of quality and traits, as of character or behavior that are peculiar to a specific person. Most individuals choose their work based on their own personality. Personally, I will choose a job that is challenging such as computer engineering. I strongly believe that my personality traits, which are mentioned above, will lead me to my goal eventually. |
